I love old songs. This is not something new for me and I come by it honestly. I say that with much humility and gratitude in my heart.
From a timeline perspective – I was a small child in to 60s, a teenager in the 70s, in my twenties in the 80s, and so on. I have always had a great love of music. In my childhood, as well as dance lessons – I sang show tunes monthly on the local TV station. I lived next door to people who participated in a weekly country and western jamboree and took me with them a few times.
My Father played bass guitar in an R & B dance band as a hobby and often encouraged me to sing a song or two. My Father who has long passed away, first taught me to squeeze my nose to check that I was singing properly.
I guess that is how my love for old songs started.
However, they all weren’t old songs when the love started – they were also the songs of the day! I never forgot them and as time went on, I came to appreciate and enjoy them even more. The songs from the 1930s through to the 1980s seem to resonate with me and fill me with inspiration and happiness.
